Gurpreet Kaur Dosanjh, a resident of San Jose, California, tragically lost her life on September 30, 2022. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart where she worked. Gurpreet was on a break from her shift when she was fatally shot. The investigation revealed that she had been on a phone call with her uncle, expressing her fear that her father-in-law, Sital Singh Dosanjh, was looking for her.
She had seen him driving around the parking lot in his black Silverado pickup truck, which indicated that he had traveled approximately 150 miles from Fresno to find her. The phone call with her uncle was abruptly cut off, and five hours later, a co-worker discovered her body in her car, suffering from at least two gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified Sital Singh Dosanjh as the primary suspect. Surveillance footage showed his truck entering the parking lot, approaching Gurpreet's car, and then leaving shortly after. The victim's uncle, who was the last person to speak with her, helped the police in identifying Sital as the likely perpetrator. The next morning, Sital was arrested at his home in Fresno. During the search of his residence, police seized a .22-caliber Beretta pistol, which was believed to be the murder weapon. Sital was charged with murder and transported to the Main Jail in San Jose, where he was held without bail.
The motive behind the murder was reportedly linked to Gurpreet's plans to divorce Sital's son. This familial conflict is believed to have driven Sital to commit the crime. During his arraignment, Sital did not enter a plea and was ordered to return to court on November 14. He appeared in court wearing a red jumpsuit, which is reserved for high-security inmates, and a blue surgical mask. The case garnered significant attention due to the tragic nature of the crime and the familial ties involved. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with Sital facing serious charges for the murder of his daughter-in-law.
