Bich Cau Thi Tran, a 25-year-old Vietnamese immigrant, was fatally shot by a San Jose Police officer on July 13, 2003, in her home. Tran, who had a history of mental health issues and had stopped taking her antipsychotic medication, was wielding an Asian vegetable peeler when officers Chad Marshall and Tom Mun arrived at her residence in response to a neighbor's call about her toddler wandering in the street.
