On November 7, 2023, at approximately 1:04 p.m., Sacramento Police Department officers responded to a medical aid call in the 100 Block of River Run Circle. Upon arrival, they forced entry into the residence and discovered two individuals: a 55-year-old woman, later identified as Marilyn Kay Dorsey, and an adult male, both suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. A firearm was found at the scene. Despite immediate medical attention, both were pronounced dead by Sacramento Fire Department personnel.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation, processing the scene, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation; however, authorities have indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office released the identities of the deceased after notifying next of kin.

In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Marilyn’s Memory: Funeral Fund" was established by her family. The campaign reveals that Marilyn was fatally shot amid divorce proceedings, and the perpetrator subsequently committed suicide. She is survived by two children, one of whom was preparing for college, and a grandpup. The family seeks financial assistance to cover funeral expenses and to support them during this difficult time.

As of now, there have been no reports of arrests related to this case. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Sacramento Police Department's dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-4357.
