On December 21, 2023, at approximately 10:21 p.m., Long Beach police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Eagle Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. The first victim, identified as 28-year-old Long Beach resident Ismael Cuevas, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim suffered a gunshot wound to an extremity and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Following an extensive investigation, on May 2, 2024, at approximately 7:50 a.m., detectives from the Special Investigations Division arrested 42-year-old Bryan Lopez, a Long Beach resident, in connection with the murder of Cuevas. Lopez was located near the 2800 block of Pacific Avenue in Long Beach and taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked on charges including one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and violation of probation. His bail was set at $3 million.
Following Lopez's arrest, detectives executed search warrants at his residences in both Long Beach and Los Angeles. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the motive for the shooting.
