Joshua Simmons, a 15-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, tragically lost his life on April 15, 2022. The incident occurred during a planned transaction to purchase a cellphone, which had been arranged through an online marketplace. Joshua had gone to meet the seller at a public housing complex located in the 1000 block of East Via Wanda. Unfortunately, the transaction took a fatal turn when an altercation broke out, leading to Joshua being shot multiple times in the upper body.
Despite the efforts of paramedics who arrived at the scene, Joshua was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
The Long Beach Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Through their efforts, they identified the suspect as Jose Bustamante Cardenas, a 24-year-old resident of Los Angeles. Cardenas was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after the incident.
