On December 27, 2023, in Miramonte, California, 37-year-old Lue Yang and his wife, 37-year-old Se Vang, were tragically killed in their home. Their 14-year-old son initially reported to authorities that an intruder had broken into their residence, attacked his parents and 11-year-old sister, and then fled the scene in a pickup truck.
Upon arrival, Fresno County Sheriff's deputies discovered the deceased couple and their critically injured daughter, who was promptly transported to a
hospital for emergency surgery. She was expected to survive. Another child, a 7-year-old boy, was present in the home but was unharmed.
As the investigation progressed, detectives identified inconsistencies in the 14-year-old's account. Evidence indicated that he had fabricated the story of a break-in and was, in fact, responsible for the attacks on his family members, utilizing multiple weapons found within the home. The teenager was subsequently arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall, facing two charges of murder and one charge of attempted murder.
Authorities have not determined a motive for these crimes. Sheriff John Zanoni emphasized the profound tragedy of the situation, noting that two children have lost their parents due to the actions of their sibling. He urged parents to remain vigilant about their children's mental health and to maintain open lines of communication.
The community of Miramonte was left in shock, grappling with the senseless violence that befell the Yang family. Support has been extended to the surviving children, with relatives caring for the 7-year-old boy and efforts underway to assist the family with funeral expenses and medical bills.
This tragic incident underscores the importance of mental health awareness and the need for accessible resources to prevent such devastating events in the future.
