Leopoldo Duke Anaya, a 19-year-old from Alhambra, California, was tragically shot and killed on October 29, 2011. The incident occurred near Winchester and Concord avenues in Alhambra. According to reports, just after midnight, officers responded to calls of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, they found shell casings but no immediate victims. Shortly thereafter, Anaya was brought to County-USC Medical Center by two friends in a Ford Explorer.
He was pronounced dead soon after his arrival, having suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso.
The circumstances surrounding Anaya's death suggest it was a gang-related shooting. Alhambra Police Sgt. Joe Flannagan indicated that the shooting appeared to be a car-to-car drive-by. Shots were reportedly exchanged between the Ford Explorer carrying Anaya and a black Honda sedan. The incident followed a Halloween party that Anaya and his friends had attended, though it remains unclear if an altercation at the party precipitated the shooting. One of Anaya's friends fled the hospital, while the driver stayed and was questioned by police.
Authorities have been actively searching for the black Honda sedan involved in the shooting. Despite the investigation, no arrests have been reported, and the case remains unsolved. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers. The investigation continues as detectives seek to piece together the events leading up to Anaya's untimely death and identify those responsible for the shooting.
