On January 6, 2024, in Reedley, California, 43-year-old Matthew Bonds was found dead, along with three other family members, in a tragic incident that shocked the local community. The victims included Matthew's wife, 44-year-old Guadalupe "Kiki" Bonds; his father, 61-year-old Darrell Bonds; and his grandfather, 81-year-old Billy Bonds. The bodies of Guadalupe and Billy were discovered in the backyard of their residence, while Darrell was found buried in a shallow grave on the property.
Matthew's body was later located in a detached garage at a neighboring house.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male neighbor, who was charged with four counts of homicide. Authorities believe the motive involved items stolen from a safe at the Bonds' home, as the safe was found pried open and emptied of its contents, including firearms and currency. The suspect's mother, 34-year-old Brynn Curtis, and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, were arrested on charges of accessory after the fact; both have since been released on bond. Police suspect that the 17-year-old did not act alone and are actively searching for additional individuals who may have been involved.
Autopsy reports confirmed that all four victims died from gunshot wounds. The Reedley community has been deeply affected by this tragedy, with over 100 residents attending a candlelight vigil to honor the Bonds family. Local pastors, police department leaders, and family members spoke at the vigil, sharing stories and expressing their grief. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to bring justice for the victims and closure for the grieving community.
