On February 29, 2024, 28-year-old Dr. Benjamin Harouni, a dentist at Smile Plus Dentistry & Orthodontics in El Cajon, California, was fatally shot while at his workplace. The assailant, identified as 29-year-old Mohammed Abdulkareem, entered the dental office and opened fire, resulting in Dr. Harouni's death and injuries to two other individuals: a 27-year-old receptionist, Yareli Carrillo, who sustained gunshot wounds to her legs, and a man in his 40s, who was also injured.
