On April 27, 2023, a tragic incident unfolded in the 800 block of Renfro Way in unincorporated El Cajon, California, when two men were fatally shot during a house party. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Jaden Davis and 29-year-old Seandell Jones, both residents of San Diego. The shooting occurred at a residence rented through Airbnb, where neither victim lived.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots and yelling from the house party. Upon arrival, deputies observed numerous individuals leaving the area on foot and in vehicles. Inside the residence, they discovered Davis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to provide medical aid, Davis was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:02 a.m. A search of the home revealed Jones, also with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 a.m.
The house party was reportedly attended by over 200 people, according to a neighbor's estimate. The motivation and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, with authorities seeking information from the public. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified.
In a related development, it was revealed that Seandell Jones had a prior criminal history. He was convicted in 2013 for his role in the 2011 murder of 18-year-old Garrett Berki, a case involving a robbery and homicide linked to a Craigslist ad. Jones was sentenced to 25 years in prison but was released in April 2021 after a resentencing petition, as he was considered a "non-killer accomplice." At the time of his death, Jones was on parole.
