On March 22, 2024, at approximately 11:08 p.m., deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a shooting incident at a residence in the 16100 block of Tawney Ridge Lane in Victorville, California. Upon arrival, they found Marshall Mitchell, a 44-year-old resident of Victorville, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Emergency medical personnel transported Mitchell to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
The following day, March 23, Mitchell was discharged from the hospital and traveled to a residence in Rancho Cucamonga. At approximately 3:11 p.m., he experienced a medical emergency and was taken to San Antonio Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail subsequently took over the investigation.
Through their investigative efforts, detectives identified 53-year-old Gregory Jackson, also a resident of Victorville, as the primary suspect in the shooting. An arrest warrant was issued, and on March 28, 2024, Jackson was located at the Cactus Motel in Barstow by the Barstow Police Department. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the High Desert Detention Center, with bail set at $1,000,000.
Authorities have charged Jackson with murder in connection with Mitchell's death.
