On March 31, 2024, in Riverside, California, 75-year-old Robert Joe Mageno was fatally shot in his residence on Canberra Way. The incident occurred around noon when police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers detained 27-year-old Christopher Jacob Lennox, who was identified as the suspect by witnesses.
Inside the home, authorities found Mageno suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Additionally, Lennox's girlfriend, who had been visiting, was discovered across the street with gunshot injuries and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigations revealed that Lennox and Mageno were roommates. An argument between Lennox and his girlfriend escalated, leading Lennox to retrieve a firearm and shoot her. As she fled, Mageno emerged from his room and was also shot by Lennox. A handgun believed to be the weapon used was recovered from the residence.
Lennox was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges including murder, attempted murder, domestic violence, and weapons violations. He is being held on a $1 million bail.
Subsequent court proceedings led to Lennox being charged with murder and other offenses. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, and a felony settlement conference was scheduled for August 14, 2024. Lennox remains in custody as the legal process continues.
