Bryan Davis, 33, was a Black man from Riverside, California, whose afternoon ended in violence on June 21, 2022, in the Ramona neighborhood. Not long after mid-afternoon, emergency calls began coming in reporting a possible shooting on the 8500 block of Hickory Lane. When officers arrived, they found Davis down with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed to help, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators pieced together a haunting sequence: Davis had been outside a home when a vehicle pulled up nearby. Two men got out and approached him, and what began as an interaction turned deadly. At some point, one of the men drew a handgun and fired, striking Davis multiple times. Within moments, both men were back inside the vehicle, disappearing from Hickory Lane before police could close in. In the early days, authorities said little publicly beyond the outline of those moments and the belief that two suspects were involved, offering no motive and withholding descriptions as the case developed.
Detectives from Riverside’s Robbery–Homicide Unit took the lead, working alongside forensic specialists, with assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. While the neighborhood tried to make sense of what happened, investigators followed leads through the weeks that followed, narrowing their focus as information came in.
By mid-July, police identified what they described as their primary suspect: Joshua Jesse Duran of Riverside, a documented gang member who authorities said was on parole for firearms violations. He was located and taken into custody on July 14, 2022, near Alessandro Boulevard and Mission Grove Parkway. Police reported that he was apprehended without incident and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
The arrest brought a name to at least part of the story, but not full closure. Authorities reported that Duran was booked on suspicion of murder along with weapons-related allegations and parole violations, and he was held without bail. At the same time, police continued to reference another man involved in the encounter—someone who had been with the shooter when the vehicle stopped—while stating that the investigation remained ongoing and that no further details were being released.
