Death by Force

On April 25, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Bakersfield Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 800 block of V Street near 8th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Dontrell Demetrius Smith lying in the roadway, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was classified as a homicide.
