On March 17, 2023, at approximately 2:00 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 7000 block of Auburn Street in northeast Bakersfield, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Jose Antonio Contreras, a resident of Palmdale, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Tragically, Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene.
