On September 21, 2024, 22-year-old Colby James Tevis was fatally shot near the Cornerstone Cafe and Bar at J and 24th Streets in Midtown Sacramento. Tevis, a senior at San Jose State University aspiring to become a sportscaster, was celebrating his sister's birthday when the tragedy occurred. Another man, identified as Jeremiah Tyes, was also injured in the shooting but survived.
