On the night of July 18, 2019, 18-year-old Timothy McGinnis was tragically shot and killed in South Sacramento, California. The incident occurred just after 11:45 PM when deputies responded to reports of a shooting on the 8200 block of Andalusian Drive. Upon arrival, they found McGinnis in the driver’s seat of a blue SUV, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
Despite his injuries, McGinnis continued to drive but lost control of the vehicle, ultimately crashing into a SMUD power box in front of a home on the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the shooting, which led to the arrest of three individuals in connection with McGinnis's death. On October 21, 2019, detectives announced the arrests of Jorge Vasquez, 23, and Roberto Ferrusca, 19, both of Sacramento, along with a 17-year-old juvenile female. These individuals were identified as the primary suspects in the shooting. Vasquez and Ferrusca were booked into the Sacramento County main jail, while the juvenile was taken to Sacramento County Juvenile Hall.
The investigation revealed that McGinnis was not alone at the time of the shooting. Three other males were passengers in the SUV and witnessed the incident. They reported that after McGinnis was shot, he lost control of the vehicle, leading to the crash. The motive behind the shooting and the specific circumstances leading up to it remain unclear, and authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
The arrests marked a significant development in the case, bringing some measure of closure to McGinnis's family and the community. The suspects faced serious charges related to the homicide, and the legal proceedings were expected to shed more light on the events that led to the young man's untimely death.
