On October 29, 2024, 43-year-old Jorge Guerrero Hurtado was fatally shot in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles, California. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 900 block of South Victoria Avenue. Hurtado was riding an electric bicycle when he was intentionally struck by a vehicle. The driver then exited the car and shot Hurtado multiple times before fleeing the scene. Emergency responders pronounced Hurtado dead at the scene.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 50-year-old Marvin Magana walked into the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Area Station and confessed to the earlier shooting. He also informed officers about a deceased woman in a vehicle located in the 800 block of South Berendo Street in Koreatown. Officers responded to the location and discovered 38-year-old Yolanda Catalan Pastul in the passenger seat, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Magana was arrested and booked on suspicion of both murders. He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility with bail set at six million dollars. A court date has been scheduled for December 4.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed that both deaths were homicides caused by multiple gunshot wounds. The motive behind these attacks remains under investigation.
