In the early morning hours of New Year's Day in 2023, the life of 19-year-old Shmyia Lashea Ley was tragically cut short in Jackson, Tennessee. The young Black/African American woman was fatally shot at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the north end of Fair Acres Cove. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported her to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Jackson Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide.
Authorities have been actively seeking information from the public to help piece together the events that led to the shooting.
