In the early morning hours of New Year's Day in 2023, the life of 19-year-old Shmyia Lashea Ley was tragically cut short in Jackson, Tennessee. The young Black/African American woman was fatally shot at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the north end of Fair Acres Cove. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported her to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
