On a tragic Valentine's Day in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 26-year-old Keyshawn JaQuan Kidd was fatally shot. The incident occurred on February 14, 2023, in the College Hill Courts area at approximately 4:30 p.m. When Chattanooga Police responded to the scene at 710 W. 12th Street, they discovered Kidd with multiple gunshot wounds. He was urgently transported to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased.
A 27-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting and received treatment for her injuries.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that the violence stemmed from an altercation that had taken place two days prior. Legraine Poston, 33, had been in a dispute with his girlfriend. Kidd had suggested that Poston should apologize to her, which led to a confrontation. On the day of the shooting, surveillance footage captured Poston getting a firearm from a silver Honda Pilot and firing multiple times at Kidd and the woman who was with him. The injured woman later identified Poston from a police lineup.
Following the shooting, witnesses reported that the suspect fled in a Honda SUV. The Tennessee Highway Patrol later spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 24 and took both occupants into custody. Poston was identified as the front-seat passenger. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide, attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and two firearm-related offenses. It was noted that Poston was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to previous felony convictions for attempted aggravated burglary in 2011 and aggravated robbery in 2014. In August 2025, Legraine Poston was sentenced to 47 years in prison for the double shooting.
Keyshawn Kidd was remembered as a bright and humorous person who could light up any room. A graduate of Ooltewah High School and a student at Miller-Motte College, he was described as family-oriented and a protector of his loved ones. He is survived by his son, parents, siblings, and fiancée.
