In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the life of 19-year-old Kevin M. Albert Jr. was tragically cut short. On September 29, 2015, the young Black man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a car on Rosemont Avenue. His death was ruled a homicide.
Kevin, a recent graduate of Brainerd High School, had been a promising football player. He had even secured a full-ride scholarship to play at Arkansas Baptist College but had returned to his hometown of Chattanooga a few weeks before his death. His family remembers him as a vibrant young man with a bright future ahead of him.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Chattanooga Police Department launched an investigation into Kevin's death. Investigators believed the shooting was not a random act of violence and that Kevin likely knew his assailant. The police department also stated that Kevin was a validated member of the Rollin 40 Crips street gang and that his death was likely gang-related. This assertion, however, was disputed by his family, who maintained that he was not involved in gang activity.
During the initial phase of the investigation, police were searching for a red sedan that was seen in the vicinity of the crime scene. Despite their efforts and pleas to the public for information, no suspects were immediately identified or arrested in connection with the murder. The case of who killed Kevin M.
