On the evening of February 20, 2023, a heated verbal argument in the parking lot of an auto care business on Clarksville Pike in Nashville, Tennessee, turned deadly. Keviana Perry, a 28-year-old female, was fatally shot during the dispute. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a man reportedly exited a small silver sedan and opened fire in the direction of Perry and another man who was inside a black SUV.
Perry was struck in the chest by the gunfire and tragically died at the
scene. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, all individuals involved in the altercation, including several witnesses, fled the area before law enforcement arrived. Investigators were initially unsure if Perry had been the intended target of the shooter, and the motive behind the fatal argument remained under investigation.
The investigation into Keviana Perry's death was led by Homicide Detective Arthur Hipp. Their work led to the identification of a suspect, 33-year-old Johnny Chandler. A grand jury subsequently returned an indictment against Chandler, charging him with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and gun possession during the commission of a felony. Chandler was later taken into custody by Specialized Investigations detectives.
