On March 23, 2023, at approximately 10 p.m., 58-year-old Cleo Peeples Sr. was fatally shot near the intersection of Shelby Drive and Chevron in the Whitehaven area of Memphis, Tennessee. Responding officers from the Memphis Police Department discovered Peeples lying on the sidewalk, having sustained eight gunshot wounds. A trail of blood indicated that he was only a short distance from his residence when the attack occurred.
