Rodrigo Ernesto “Ernie” Aguilar, a 60-year-old male, was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee. The incident took place outside his apartment complex in the Bellevue area.
That morning, Aguilar had returned home from work around 1:30 a.m. and was unloading his vehicle. Surveillance footage from the scene showed him appearing to notice something off-camera.
It is believed that he witnessed suspects attempting to break into cars and went to confront them. Shortly after walking toward the area where he was shot, he was found deceased at the scene. Although officers had responded to a 'shots fired' call in the vicinity just after 2 a.m., they did not discover a victim or a crime scene at that time. Aguilar's body was discovered by a civilian at 7:15 a.m. lying on the grass outside an apartment.
The community mourned the loss of Aguilar, who was remembered for his kindness and musical talent. He was a beloved member of the Charlotte Road Baptist Church and a school employee. In the wake of his death, friends, family, and community members gathered to remember him.
As of late 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are actively seeking information from the public to help solve the case. A reward of $40,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Aguilar’s death.
