On a summer afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 18-year-old Ahmad Osborne was tragically cut short. The male teen from Joelton had driven his red Ford Mustang to the Glastonbury Woods Apartments on June 22, 2017, for what investigators believe was a planned drug transaction. In the parking lot of the complex, however, the encounter turned violent.
An attempted robbery escalated, and shots were fired, leaving Osborne fatally wounded.
The investigation into the shooting spanned several years, meticulously pieced together by detectives. It was determined that Osborne was the victim of a robbery gone wrong. The first significant break in the case came in December 2018, with the arrest of Christopher Titus Barr. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. In February 2022, a jury convicted Barr of second-degree murder, and he was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for his role in Osborne's death.
The pursuit of justice did not end with Barr's conviction. The investigation continued, leading to a second suspect more than six years after the fatal shooting. On July 6, 2023, Dameko Simms, then 28, was taken into custody by Metro Nashville Police and the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force. He was apprehended as he attempted to flee from a home in South Nashville. A grand jury indicted Simms on charges of first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery, marking another chapter in the long road to justice for Ahmad Osborne.
