On September 5, 2010, 16-year-old Lamar Hughs was tragically killed by gun violence in Nashville, Tennessee. His death occurred amidst a surge in youth violence in North Nashville, an area plagued by poverty and crime. Lamar's death deeply impacted his community and family, particularly his sister Michelrica Hughes. In response, Michelrica and a former teacher, Rasheedat Fetuga, founded Gideon's Army in 2010.
