On September 14, 2017, 17-year-old Kennda Watkins Jr. was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Riverchase apartment complex in East Nashville. Officers responded to reports of gunshots around 8:19 p.m. and found Watkins deceased at the scene. According to witnesses, two young men approached from the side of an apartment building and opened fire on Watkins before fleeing the scene.
