In the early evening of May 29, 2023, a sense of normalcy filled the air in Gallatin, Tennessee. Sixteen-year-old Amare Parker, a Black/African American male, was enjoying a walk with his cousin, likely unwinding on a Memorial Day evening. Their path took them near Red River Road, a familiar stretch of their community. Tragically, this ordinary evening would soon be shattered by an act of sudden and irreversible violence.
Between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., a dark-colored Nissan sedan approached the two teenagers. Without warning, occupants within the vehicle opened fire, the sound of gunshots tearing through the peaceful atmosphere. In the chaotic moments that followed, Amare was struck. He tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene, his life cut short in a senseless act of violence. The shooting left his family and the Gallatin community in a state of shock and profound grief.
The Gallatin Police Department launched an immediate and intensive investigation into the homicide. Their efforts quickly yielded results, as within 24 hours of the shooting, they located the Nissan sedan believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. This crucial piece of evidence led to the swift arrest of three individuals in connection with Amare Parker's death: 18-year-old Marco Antonio Roman Aznar, another adult male, and a juvenile male. The arrests brought a small measure of relief to a community reeling from the tragedy, though many questions remained.
The subsequent legal proceedings revealed the devastating reality of the situation. Marco Antonio Roman Aznar was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Following a thorough investigation and legal process, his case went to trial. In October 2025, a Sumner County jury found Aznar guilty of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for his role in the fatal shooting of Amare Parker. His sentencing was scheduled for December 8, 2025, marking the next step in a long and painful journey for all those affected by this tragic loss. While the legal process moved forward for one of the individuals responsible, the identities and the outcomes of the cases against the other adult male and the juvenile arrested in connection with the incident have not been widely publicized.
