On June 4, 2023, 23-year-old Wylil Alexander of Clarksville, Tennessee, was fatally shot during a meeting with two teenagers. The encounter took place in the 1200 block of Parkway Place, where Alexander had arranged to meet a 14-year-old and 16-year-old O'Jarrion Griffin. After a brief interaction, Alexander attempted to flee but was shot. Her vehicle subsequently crashed into a dumpster. She was transported to a Nashville hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
In the days following the incident, both teenage suspects were apprehended by law enforcement. The 14-year-old was arrested without incident on June 5, 2023. Griffin remained at large for several days but was taken into custody on June 11, 2023. Both suspects faced charges related to Alexander's death, and the district attorney's office indicated plans to request that they be tried as adults. A transition hearing was scheduled for July 27, 2023, to determine the jurisdiction under which they would be prosecuted.
Alexander was remembered by family and friends as a joyful individual who dedicated time to volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and Camp Rainbow, a camp for children with cancer and serious illnesses. She worked long hours at a local manufacturer and aspired to become an entrepreneur. Her loved ones expressed devastation at her untimely death but also conveyed messages of forgiveness toward the young suspects involved, hoping they would find a path to redemption.
