In the summer of 2023, a domestic dispute in Knoxville, Tennessee, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of Joseph Tanner Norris, a 22-year-old male. The incident unfolded late on the night of Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at a residence on Copeland Street. Knoxville Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 11:15 p.m. and discovered Joseph Norris suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders rendered aid at the scene before he was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The ensuing investigation by the Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit swiftly identified a suspect: Joseph's younger brother, 18-year-old Logan Norris. According to the investigation and witness accounts, the brothers had been involved in a physical altercation inside their home. The conflict spilled outside onto the sidewalk, where the confrontation continued. It was during this second altercation that Logan Norris allegedly produced a firearm and shot his older brother multiple times.
Following the shooting, Logan Norris reportedly fled the scene and discarded the weapon. However, he was quickly apprehended by responding officers and detained as a person of interest. He was also taken to the UT Medical Center for evaluation of injuries he allegedly sustained during the fight with his brother. Upon his release from the hospital, authorities announced that Logan Norris would be charged with second-degree murder in connection with his brother's death.
