The male victim was found by Memphis Police officers in the kitchen of a home in the 3300 block of Ardmore Street, having sustained a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances leading to Terrence Bean's death allegedly began with an argument over a set of keys between him and his
wife, Elita Bean. According to accounts from one of their children, the altercation intensified, with Elita allegedly attempting to stab Terrence with a knife. The fight reportedly moved from the kitchen to a bedroom and then back to the kitchen.
In a dramatic turn of events, a child witness told investigators that their father, Terrence, retrieved a gun, handed it to their mother, and told her to "shoot him." Elita Bean then allegedly fired the weapon three times. When police arrived, they found three spent shell casings near Terrence Bean's body. Elita Bean initially told officers that the gun went off while she and her husband were fighting over it. Investigators noted that Terrence Bean had also suffered cuts, and a knife was later discovered in a garbage can.
Elita Bean, who was 44 years old at the time, was taken to the hospital for shoulder pain before being arrested. She was charged with second-degree murder in connection with her husband's death. Authorities noted that Elita appeared to be highly intoxicated at the time and was unable to provide a detailed statement. Her case was later sent to a Shelby County Grand Jury, and she was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond.
