On a Tuesday evening in Knoxville, Tennessee, 41-year-old Carlos Cozart Yarbrough was with a group of friends in a parking lot in the Lonsdale area. It was around 10:15 p.m. on October 1, 2024, in the 1900 block of Minnesota Avenue, when an assailant emerged from behind a nearby dumpster and opened fire on the crowd. In the ensuing chaos, Yarbrough was struck by at least one bullet. He was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.
