On the evening of April 23, 2023, at approximately 10:22 p.m., York City Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Salem Avenue in York, Pennsylvania. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Olajuwon Emanuel Brabham inside a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A bystander had moved him to the yard before emergency services transported him to WellSpan York Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m.

The York County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on April 25, confirming that Brabham died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling the manner of death as homicide. Brabham, a resident of West King Street in York, was remembered by his family as a kind-hearted individual with a caring nature. His grandmother expressed her grief on social media, stating, "Our hearts are broken, but our faith in God will not be shaken."

Following the incident, York City Police identified 20-year-old Kamron Luis Michael Dowsey as the primary suspect in Brabham's death. Investigators utilized surveillance footage from inside the residence, which showed Dowsey interacting with Brabham in a seemingly friendly manner before a confrontation ensued, leading to the shooting. An arrest warrant for criminal homicide was issued for Dowsey, who was at large for several days. During this period, police sought public assistance to locate him.

On May 4, 2023, Dowsey surrendered to authorities at York City Police Department headquarters, accompanied by his attorney. At the time of the shooting, Dowsey was out on bail for previous charges related to terroristic threats made in 2022. Following his surrender, he was denied bail and awaited a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 18, 2023.

The tragic death of Olajuwon Brabham underscores the pervasive issue of gun violence affecting communities. As the legal process proceeded, Brabham's family and friends mourned the loss of a young man remembered for his intelligence, respect, and caring heart. A Celebration of Life Service was held on May 5, 2023, at Gladfelter Funeral Home in York, where loved ones gathered to honor his memory.
