In the winter of 2016, the life of 21-year-old Dontay Lamar Lowrie was cut short in a burst of violence on the streets of York, Pennsylvania. On the evening of January 28th, Lowrie was shot multiple times in the 400 block of Park Street, near the intersection of Park Place. First responders rushed him to York Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The incident was part of a string of shootings that unsettled the local community and raised concerns about gang-related violence.
The investigation into Lowrie's death moved swiftly. Within days, York City Police identified a suspect and made an arrest. Juan Abel Santiago, also 21 years old and a resident of York, was taken into custody. He was faced with serious charges, including Criminal Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and Robbery in connection with the fatal shooting of Lowrie. While an arrest was made, authorities indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that other individuals could potentially face charges as the case developed.
Dontay L. Lowrie Sr., as he was also known, was born on December 28, 1994. A 2012 graduate of Glenn Mills Academy, he was remembered as a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He left behind a young daughter and a stepdaughter, as well as a large extended family who mourned his tragic and untimely death.
