On May 18, 2023, 27-year-old Ryan Marquise Dunnaway was fatally shot in a Neville Township apartment near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Grand Avenue, where police found Dunnaway deceased with five gunshot wounds.
According to court documents, Dwight Baker, 46, of Pittsburgh's Upper Hill District, forcibly entered the apartment and refused to leave.
A witness reported that Baker confronted them about their relationship with Dunnaway, accusing them of "throwing everything away" for him. When Dunnaway arrived at the apartment, Baker opened fire, shooting him multiple times. Surveillance footage captured an individual fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting.
Baker was apprehended later that evening by Sewickley police, who noted he had blood on his pants and was in possession of a firearm. He was charged with criminal homicide, burglary, aggravated assault, and other related offenses.
In October 2024, Baker pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and other charges in connection with Dunnaway's death. He was sentenced to 20 to 50 years in state prison. During the sentencing, family and friends of Dunnaway expressed their profound loss and the impact of the tragedy on their lives. Baker apologized to the families, acknowledging his actions without providing an explanation.
