In the early hours of Sunday, October 8, 2023, a life was tragically cut short in what should have been a festive gathering. Jamar Montae Porterfield-Herriot Jr., a 22-year-old male from Homestead, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot at a private party held at the Chevy Chase Community Center in White Township, just a couple of miles from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus.
