On a spring evening in Indiana, Pennsylvania, a planned robbery during a drug deal escalated into a tragic and fatal encounter. The events of May 10, 2016, led to the death of 21-year-old Shawn Jaquet Richardson, a male from Wilkinsburg, and 34-year-old Jamar Watt. The deadly shooting occurred in a third-floor apartment in the borough.
Investigators pieced together a narrative of a robbery that had been orchestrated by the two individuals who accompanied Richardson and Watt to the
apartment. The group had reportedly devised a plan to rob George Axim, who was a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, during a marijuana transaction. The two women who arrived with the victims were later identified as 21-year-old Katherine Hullenbaugh of Clarksburg and 28-year-old Consetta Mena of Aliquippa.
However, the planned robbery took a violent turn. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Axim in the second-floor stairwell. He claimed to have shot two men in self-defense, alleging they had attacked him with a tire iron. Inside the apartment, authorities found the bodies of Richardson and Watt.
Following the incident, George Axim was taken into custody and charged with the shooting deaths of Shawn Jaquet Richardson and Jamar Watt. Katherine Hullenbaugh and Consetta Mena were also arrested and faced charges as accomplices to the killings. The theory presented by law enforcement was that while the women did not pull the trigger, they were active participants in the commission of a crime that resulted in the two deaths. The three suspects were jailed without the ability to post bond.
