In the quiet town of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of January 22, 2024, ending the life of 43-year-old Carrie L. Boneforte. A Caucasian female, Carrie was a mother of four, whose life was cut short in an act of domestic violence that stunned the local community. The incident took place at her residence on East Union Street, a home that had previously been marked by turmoil.
Authorities were called to the home around 8:26 p.m. for a reported domestic dispute.
Upon their arrival, they made a grim discovery. Carrie Boneforte was found deceased in a bedroom, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. In the same home, officers found her longtime partner, 48-year-old Scott Richards, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was still alive when police found him and was rushed to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Scott Richards succumbed to his injuries the following day. Investigators concluded that Richards had shot and killed Boneforte before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. The couple's history revealed a pattern of domestic issues. Court records indicated that Boneforte had sought and been granted a protection-from-abuse order against Richards back in December 2014, citing concerns for her safety and his mental health. That order had expired in May 2015. The presence of children in the household at the time of the incident added another layer of tragedy to the event, leaving neighbors and family friends deeply concerned for their well-being in the aftermath of such a devastating loss.
