On March 17, 2024, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Philadelphia police responded to reports of a shooting on the 1200 block of North Taney Street in the Brewerytown neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Derrick Gant, known in the music industry as rapper Phat Geez, lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m.
