In the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, a 14-year-old male named Ian Wilsey was fatally shot on the evening of November 28, 2016. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 6200 block of Brous Avenue, where Wilsey was in the company of a 16-year-old friend. According to police reports, two men approached the teenagers, and one opened fire, striking Wilsey. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.
His friend was not physically harmed in the attack.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it was connected to a planned marijuana transaction. Wilsey had accompanied his older friend to what was supposed to be a small sale. During the transaction, an altercation occurred, leading to the fatal shooting. The tragic event cut short the life of the Northeast High School ninth-grader, who was just a month shy of his fifteenth birthday.
In the days following the shooting, authorities identified 19-year-old Samir Price as the primary suspect. On December 6, 2016, Price surrendered to the police. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, robbery, and related offenses in connection with Ian Wilsey's death. The charges reflected the violent nature of the crime that unfolded during the botched drug deal.
On May 30, 2018, the case against Samir Price reached its conclusion. Price entered into a negotiated guilty plea, admitting to third-degree murder and two firearms violations. As part of the agreement, the remaining charges against him were withdrawn. The court accepted his plea and sentenced him to a term of twenty-five to fifty years in prison for his role in the death of Ian Wilsey.
