The initial investigation indicated that Helen Knieriem died from a single gunshot wound inflicted by her husband, Roy, who then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, suggesting a murder-suicide scenario.
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio later confirmed these findings, ruling Helen's death as a homicide and Roy's as a suicide.
