Jasmine Chavez, aged 21, was tragically killed on December 16, 2017, in Chicago's Chicago Lawn neighborhood. Just four days after celebrating her 21st birthday, Jasmine was traveling with two other individuals in a car when they were ambushed in a drive-by shooting. The attack occurred around 9:40 p.m. as the car moved through the 5900 block of South Richmond. Gunshots rang out from the sidewalk, hitting Jasmine and one of her companions, Frankie Baez, 25, who also died at the scene. Another passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
The shooting remains unsolved, and police have not made any arrests in connection with the deaths. Jasmine's murder is part of the continuing gun violence plaguing Chicago, where many such cases remain unsolved.
