On October 6, 2024, 26-year-old Malcolm Isaiah Nowlin was fatally shot while working as a security guard at the Dijlah Restaurant and Hookah Lounge in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when Nowlin denied entry to a patron, as the establishment was closed. The individual, later identified as 24-year-old Eric Sudduth-Jones, became agitated upon being refused entry.
