Lamonte Hunter, a 19-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, was killed on July 26, 2011, in a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred on the North Side of Pittsburgh at the intersection of East Street and Evergreen Road. Reports indicate that on July 24, while Hunter was driving, an unknown assailant opened fire from another vehicle. Despite being critically injured, Hunter managed to drive to a location where a jitney driver helped transport him to Allegheny General Hospital.
Unfortunately, Hunter succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Hunter's homicide was part of the persistent cycle of violence in Pittsburgh, which has particularly affected young Black men in the community. Out of the total homicides that year, the majority of victims were Black, highlighting an ongoing issue of targeted violence in these communities. Hunter's murder remains unsolved, with no arrests made, underscoring the challenge that law enforcement faces in solving many of these violent crimes. The investigation is ongoing, reflecting a broader issue in Allegheny County where numerous homicides remain unsolved and justice delayed for many families.
