DeVon Dozier, a 23-year-old male from Pittsburgh, PA, tragically lost his life on June 14, 2018. He was found bleeding to death from a gunshot wound to his femur in a Crafton Heights apartment. Despite being rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
The investigation into DeVon Dozier's death led to the arrest of Rashem Littleberry, a 29-year-old man from Chartiers City.
Littleberry was already serving time in federal prison for his involvement in a drug ring when he was charged with Dozier's murder. According to witnesses, Littleberry and Dozier were arguing in the hallway of the apartment when Littleberry shot Dozier in the thigh. Littleberry later pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 4.5 to 9 years in state prison, followed by three years of probation.
The court proceedings revealed that Dozier's family had already endured significant tragedy, with his father being a victim of homicide in 2003 and another son, Diondre Dozier, killed in 2014. DeVon Dozier's mother and grandmother expressed their grief and frustration during the trial, highlighting the devastating impact of his death on their family.
The case brought to light the broader issues of violence and drug-related crime in the Pittsburgh area, particularly in the West End housing projects where Littleberry was involved in a heroin ring. The judge in the case acknowledged the pain and suffering caused by Littleberry's actions and sentenced him accordingly.
DeVon Dozier's death serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violence and the importance of addressing the root causes of such crimes to prevent further loss and suffering.
