On a Thursday afternoon in May of 2018, a drug transaction on a rural South Carolina road turned deadly, claiming the life of 30-year-old Vincent 'Vince' Lambert Jr. The male resident of Lexington was found shot to death in the passenger seat of a car on Pine Ridge Drive, just north of Kershaw. The driver of the vehicle, a woman named Jody Holt, was also wounded in the exchange of gunfire but survived her injuries.
A four-year-old child, who was in the backseat of the car at the time of the shooting, was physically unharmed.
The ensuing investigation by the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office led to the identification and arrest of three teenage suspects. The individuals charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder were 17-year-old Brennan Jamil Patterson Jr., 19-year-old Ka'Darius Aintwayn Kirkland, and 16-year-old Dorian Tyrese Clyburn. Clyburn was apprehended after a significant manhunt that involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
Further investigation into the incident resulted in additional arrests. The mother of the child in the car, Jody Holt, faced charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and unlawful neglect of a child. Authorities determined that by bringing the child to a drug deal, she had placed the minor in unreasonable danger. Later, an additional charge of unlawful neglect of a child was filed against Holt after it was discovered the child had marijuana in their system. Two other individuals, 55-year-old William James Jones and 41-year-old Latoshia Marie Kirkland, were also arrested and charged with misprision of a felony for allegedly lying to police about the whereabouts of one of the murder suspects, Ka'Darius Kirkland, who is Latoshia's son and Jones's nephew. Jones also faced a charge of accessory after the fact to murder.
