In the evening hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2024, a dispute inside a Chinese takeout restaurant in North Philadelphia's Franklinville neighborhood culminated in the tragic death of 34-year-old Reginald Jones. A Black male, Jones was inside the establishment located on the 800 block of West Erie Avenue when an argument broke out. The verbal confrontation escalated to violence when Jones was shot in the stomach.
Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m.
to find the wounded Jones outside the restaurant. He was privately transported to Temple University Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Reginald Jones was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m. a resident of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, his life was cut short in an act of violence that left investigators with an immediate lack of suspects.
In the wake of the shooting, no arrests were made, and the weapon used in the commission of the crime was not recovered from the scene. The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit has taken the lead in the ongoing investigation. Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the restaurant which captured the argument that preceded the fatal shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and have offered a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the death of Reginald Jones.
