Jovanni Oyola, a 19-year-old from North Philadelphia, was tragically shot and killed on July 22, 2015. Police responded to the 3000 block of North Howard Street at around 10:44 p.m., where they found Jovanni lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
The incident remains unsolved, and the Philadelphia Police Department has been actively seeking any leads from the community to help bring those responsible to justice. A reward of up to $20,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Jovanni was remembered by family and friends as a bright, joyful presence in their lives. He loved music, particularly reggae, hip hop, and urban gospel, and he often sang and danced at family gatherings. His uncle, Wilfredo Pedraza, recalled how Jovanni would do whatever it took to make others smile—he was known for lighting up the room with jokes and performances. Jovanni was deeply loved by his family, and his sudden passing has left a void, especially since he would never get the chance to meet his baby, born after his death. Jovanni's mother, Ary Williams, expressed her gratitude for the time they had with him, despite the immense loss they continue to feel every day.
The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting them at 215-686-TIPS. Jovanni's family hopes that justice can be served and that they might find some closure amid their grief.
