On January 1, 2023, just before 1 a.m., Sampson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Darkwood Lane in Clinton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered that three individuals had been shot during a disturbance at the location. Among the victims was 19-year-old Tizhaildeil "Mucie" Simmons of Stetson Street, Clinton, who sustained fatal injuries. He succumbed to his wounds while being transported to Sampson Regional Medical Center by a friend.
Two other individuals were injured in the incident: 29-year-old Lykheim Simmons, also of Stetson Street, and 23-year-old Marquese Moore of Garland Airport Road, Garland. Both suffered minor injuries and were treated at Sampson Regional Emergency Department. The relationship between the victims and the circumstances leading up to the shooting were not detailed in the initial reports.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Sampson County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator(s) and determine a motive. Despite their efforts, no arrests were made immediately following the incident. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in solving the case.
Tizhaildeil Simmons, affectionately known as "Mucie," was born on August 31, 2003. He was survived by his mother, Miranda Bryant of Clinton; his father, LeRandell Terrance Simmons of Lillington; several siblings; and his grandmothers, Ethel Marshall and Ida Mae Simmons. A funeral service was held on January 18, 2023, at Little Piney Grove Baptist Church in Clinton, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
As of December 2024, there have been no public reports indicating that arrests have been made or suspects identified in connection with the death of Tizhaildeil Simmons. The case remains open, and law enforcement continues to seek information from the community to bring those responsible to justice.
