On January 1, 2023, just before 1 a.m., Sampson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Darkwood Lane in Clinton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered that three individuals had been shot during a disturbance at the location. Among the victims was 19-year-old Tizhaildeil "Mucie" Simmons of Stetson Street, Clinton, who sustained fatal injuries. He succumbed to his wounds while being transported to Sampson Regional Medical Center by a friend.
