On January 1, 2023, 28-year-old Raymond Ningmua Ayumbi Ntungwen was fatally shot on West Tyvola Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Cameroon, Raymond was a poet, musician, and father. Emergency medical personnel arrived promptly but pronounced him dead at the scene.
Following the incident, 28-year-old Michael Pringle contacted authorities, expressing his intention to surrender. He was subsequently interviewed by police and charged with Raymond's murder.
In October 2023, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office dismissed the murder charge against Pringle. The dismissal was based on Pringle's claim of self-defense during an altercation over a bag of marijuana, which escalated into a physical struggle involving a firearm. The prosecution cited a lack of independent evidence, such as witnesses or video footage, to determine the initial aggressor, making it challenging to disprove Pringle's self-defense claim beyond a reasonable doubt.
Raymond's mother, Pamela Ntungwen, expressed profound frustration and grief over the dismissal, feeling that justice had not been served for her son. The emotional toll led her to relocate from Pineville, North Carolina, to Minnesota, as she found it unbearable to remain near the place of her son's death.
In May 2024, Pringle was arrested again, this time for robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Pineville, North Carolina. During the robbery, he allegedly brandished a firearm and involved a 16-year-old accomplice, whom he armed. The magistrate's order indicates that Pringle stole over $18,000 during the heist.
Pamela Ntungwen expressed relief upon learning of Pringle's subsequent arrest, viewing it as a potential avenue for justice. She stated, "I handed this case to God. Justice is going to take its course."
